Monsignor William Irwin Memorial Fund

EDMONTON, ALBERTA – Catholic Social Services has launched a new fund that will help rejuvenate and develop our Agency’s residences now and in the future.

The fund is named after Msgr William Irwin, who started Catholic Social Services in 1961.

“The Monsignor Bill Irwin Memorial Fund will allow us to continue to honour the legacy of Fr. Bill by doing what we believe he would want us to do: to bring mercy and kindness to people in need with dignity and respect,” CSS CEO Stephen Carattini said.

Currently, our Agency owns or leases more than 90 homes that house as many as 500 people.

“It is our responsibility, and I believe that it would have been Fr. Bill’s demand, that the quality of our homes reflect the dignity of each person in our care,” Carattini said.

Specifically, the Msgr William Irwin Memorial Foundation will support our Building Hope initiative, which renovates, repairs, or replaces existing homes. Building Hope money could also be utilized to build new residences to further aid us in our mission to help society’s most vulnerable.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to celebrate and perpetuate Fr. Bill’s legacy of service, and we pray that you will join us in this effort to care for and bring hope to the very people to whom he dedicated his life and ministry,” Carattini told those in attendance. “We are equally grateful for your presence here and for your continued support for the ministry of Catholic Social Services.  Please pray for us and the people we serve.”
