Catholic Social Services mourns the loss of our Archbishop Emeritus, Most Reverend Joseph MacNeil, who passed away on February 11, 2018.

Originally from Nova Scotia, His Grace came to Edmonton when he was appointed Archbishop of Edmonton on September 5, 1973 and served a 26-year term. He officially retired in 1999.

Throughout the years, His Grace has been a remarkable friend and supporter of Catholic Social Service and our annual Sign of Hope appeal.

We pray for the repose of Archbishop MacNeil’s soul and for God’s peace and consolation to be with his family, friends, loved ones and our community in the Archdiocese of Edmonton.
