Uplifting Vulnerable Edmontonians

On September 28, 2019, Catholic Social Services (CSS) hosted the 4th annual UpLift Day at St. Alphonsus Catholic Parish and Eastwood Community League in downtown Edmonton. There couldn’t have been a better day to provide vulnerable Edmontonians with warm winter clothes and a hot meal, as it marked the first snowfall for the season!

This year, CSS was honored to serve more than 550 people. The hard work of 59 volunteers made this dream event come true—from collecting and sorting coats, to preparing and serving food, to assisting clients at the event, volunteers made Uplift possible.

Catholic Social Services wishes to send a tremendous thank you to its sponsors! Thanks to Bike Edmonton for provided free bike repairs onsite, MC College for the excellent haircuts, and ETC Decor for donating beautiful decorations for the parish. Thank you St. Vincent de Paul Society for their partnership and donation of warm clothes, Chris Stambaugh and Imagine That Photographic for providing family photos, Patrick Froese and Katrina Sosa for the beautiful music, and Modern Beauty Supplies for their donation of new toiletries. Thank you also to Eastwood Community Hall and St. Alphonsus Catholic Parish for loaning your spaces.

Thank you to Capital Power for a grant that made it all possible.  Thank you to all the schools, Parishes and Covenant Health sites that helped to collect 2934 coats and jackets for this year’s event!

The more involved we are with vulnerable populations, the healthier and stronger our community can be. Thank you to everyone for taking steps towards this goal.
