Celebrating Volunteers During National Volunteer Week

The theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week (April 14-20) is Every Moment Matters. Since 1977 Volunteer Canada has acted as the national voice and leadership body for volunteerism. Volunteers are fundamental to meeting the needs and wellbeing of our communities. By sharing their time, skills, empathy and creativity, an estimated 13 million volunteers from coast to coast dedicate 166 million hours to help co-create the culture and vibrancy of their neighborhoods. According to Volunteer Canada, their time contributed over $55 billion to the Canadian economy in 2018.

Volunteers play an important part in many CSS programs, including Immigration and Settlement Services, women’s shelters and community outreach programs. Over 350 volunteers provide valuable skills and support every month as we serve the needs of our communities.

Volunteers play an important part of the services provided by Immigration and Settlement Services programs like:

  • Gateway for Newcomers
  • SWIS (Settlement Worker in Schools)
  • LACE - Learning and Community Engagement (in partnership with EPL)
  • Cultural Links Matching Program
  • Links for Success Program
  • Canadian Cooking Class
  • Citizenship Class

Children, Family and Community Services programs are helped by volunteers at:

  • Zeno House
  • Goretti House
  • Lurana Shelter
  • LaSalle Shelter

Community Outreach and Disability Service programs are supported by volunteers in programs like:

  • Gianna Centre
  • Welcome Home program
