Lloydminster Catholic Social Services (CSS) is now offering English language testing to help non-english speakers access free language classes, employment and settlement programs.
The Canadian Language Benchmark Program (CLBPT) measures listening, reading, writing and speaking skills for adult learners.
“The testing not only determines eligibility but also helps place clients in an appropriate training program or class that matches their English proficiency level,” said CSS settlement advisor Jonah Alejandro.
The program is open to permanent residents, Ukrainians with Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel work permits, recent citizens who have arrived in Canada within the past eight years, Gaza work permit holders and specific temporary residents.
CSS’s Gateway for Newcomers offers language assessments four times a year to both Alberta and Saskatchewan residents in collaboration with the Language Assessment, Referral and Counselling Centre (LARCC) in Edmonton.
The assessments can support Canadian citizenship applications and can be used for settlement and employment purposes.
Although the fall sessions have passed, residents can register for upcoming testing sessions in February and March 2026. There is also an option to take online tests for those who meet specific requirements.
To book a test or learn more, contact Catholic Social Services at 780-875-9084 or visit the Gateway for Newcomers office in Lloydminster.
