Our Immigration & Settlement Service hosted its annual Housing Event, bringing together landlords, newcomers, and community partners to discuss safe and successful renting.
This year’s event focused on housing and fire safety, helping newcomers better understand rental responsibilities and safe living practices in Canada. We were also grateful to have Edmonton Fire Rescue Services on site, engaging families and children with their fire truck and sharing fire safety information with attendees.
Participants also heard from Naveed Hakimi, who shared his experience of surviving an apartment fire after rebuilding his life in Canada as a refugee from Afghanistan.
The service was recognized for leadership in preventing and responding to family violence.
Local community organizations and parishes gathered together at the Chateau Louis in Edmonton for our Making a Difference In this Changing World luncheon on Saturday, February 18, and our CEO Stephen Carattini was the featured guest speaker for the event.
Our CEO Stephen Carattini sat down with Jeff Lewis from the Globe and Mail, to reflect on our Agency’s overall experience welcoming these refugees to Alberta since December 2015.
From August 22 to 24, the Immigration and Settlement Service hosted its 4th annual Learn To Camp in Jasper National Park with 50 government-assisted refugees who have arrived in Canada within the last six months.
