Since 1989, the Red Deer & District Community Foundation has invested in a wide range of community projects, programs, and organizations to build a stronger central Alberta. This foundation offers central Alberta non-profits an opportunity to access grant funding that supports community improvement in the arts and culture, health and wellness, human services, recreation, sport, education, and environmental sectors.
In 2017 our Community Connections Club in Red Deer received a grant to purchase a new dual-range oven for its cooking class. Community Connections is a self-advocacy and life skill development group for adults with developmental disabilities. The club also holds a variety of recreational and leisure activities that promote volunteerism, socialization, and leadership. The cooking class aims to improve the members' skills, confidence, and independence as they learn to eat healthy and cook meals for themselves.
