Group home renamed after St. Faith

A group home in Wetaskiwin that cares for women with cognitive disabilities was recently renamed St. Faith House during a blessing ceremony on Wednesday, September 7.

Previously named 1983 Residence, the home was established in 1991 by parents who wanted a place where their daughter – who is still a resident there – would be in good hands.

“This residence has stood proud and united as staff and co-workers continue to work towards mentoring and guiding our residents to a brighter future,” said St. Faith House’s Linda Bressette.

“Each member of our team work tirelessly to help enhance the quality of daily life for each of the ladies that reside at St. Faith,” added co-worker Lena Jackson. “While providing the basics of daily living and for overall happiness and wellbeing, we are dedicated to fulfilling and enhancing (their) individual needs.”

The home is named after St. Faith, a virgin martyr who lived in third-century France. She was arrested by the Roman Empire during the persecution of Christians and executed for refusing to make pagan sacrifices.

Before being tortured and executed, she is said to have steeled herself by praying to Christ, making the sign of the cross and saying “I am prepared to suffer everything for Christ.”

She is the patron saint for prisoners, pilgrims, and soldiers. Her feast day is held on October 6.
