Since 1989, the Red Deer & District Community Foundation has invested in a wide range of community projects, programs, and organizations to build a stronger central Alberta. This foundation offers central Alberta non-profits an opportunity to access grant funding that supports community improvement in the arts and culture, health and wellness, human services, recreation, sport, education, and environmental sectors.

The grant they gave in 2019 was to install AEDs in our Red Deer group homes with the residents who are the most medically fragile and at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. An AED is a small, portable device used to identify and correct abnormal heart activity via an electric shock. According to St. John Ambulance, AEDs are “proven to be one of the most important tools in saving the life of someone suffering sudden cardiac arrest.”

In 2017, they gave a grant to our Community Connections program for adults with disabilities. The grant was used to purchase a new oven for their cooking class. The cooking class aims to improve the participants’ life skills, confidence, and independence as they learn to eat healthy and cook meals for themselves.
