Doing the common good for everyone means that certain individual sacrifices must be made for the betterment of society. That was one of the messages Fr. Kris Schmidt presented during his June Sophia Talk.

Our most recent Sophia Talks discussed the origin of the word “catholic” and the public perception of the Catholic Church being a closed-minded institution.

Our most recent Sophia Talks in January was presented by Kathy Sperling, a spiritual care facilitator who works with women in our La Salle and St. Katharine Drexel Place ministries.

“True compassion… is our willingness to go and be with the other, especially… those who are on the edges, the marginalized, those who have no voice. That’s what true compassion looks like.”

In his October Edition of Sophia Talks, Dr. Robert McKeon from Newman Theological College joins us to discuss how Catholic Social Justice informs our views and understanding of Human Rights.

In this September edition of our Sophia Talks, Steven Defer, the Family and Life Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Edmonton, expands upon the definition of what it means to be a family, and speaks about the family as a church.

Edmonton-area blogger Mark Pickup, who runs the website humanlifematters.org, was the guest speaker at our third Sophia Talks event, which was held for our staff at our Edmonton administration office earlier this month.
