Volunteers play an important role in helping children and mothers heal after abuse

Tee began her placement with Catholic Social Services to fulfill a requirement for her Social Work degree.  More than a year later, after completing her required school hours, Tee continues sharing her time each week as a Child Minding volunteer with our La Salle residence for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

“You develop a relationship with the kids, plus, I really like the job, and the team at La Salle is fantastic,” said Tee, reflecting on her decision to continue with her role. “I can relate to the kids on certain levels because I was in the foster system when I was younger, so in a sense this is a way for me to be who I needed when I was younger.”

Child Minding is a crucial part of programming at La Salle. When Tee is playing Monopoly or hide-and-seek with the children, it is an opportunity for their mothers to immerse themselves in the healing process after escaping domestic violence. Mothers are able to work directly with staff and focus with peace of mind knowing that their children are in capable and caring hands.

Across the agency, volunteers like Tee are essential to helping care for many of the people we serve. Today we celebrate her commitment to walking alongside the children and mothers at La Salle as they start a new chapter with the support of our CSS family.

Thank you, Tee!
